Writing a Resume in Education
Writing a Resume in EducationWriting a resume in education is quite simple. Just as you would a job application, you need to include education information that the company can easily access. By education, the company is referring to your educational background, and not necessarily your academic achievement. It should be noted that, unless your career is heavily focused on the industry you are applying for, there is no need to include your college education. A professional resume cover letter includes relevant information about your college experiences. It should also reflect your work experience, which includes details of your jobs. For a business seeking someone with an education career, include only what you know to be true about yourself. Of course, you do not want to appear biased in any way. However, you need to focus on the facts. You can include any relevant school courses and degrees. You should also include any awards you may have received that highlight your academic achieveme nts in college. Make sure to highlight all extracurricular activities you participated in while studying. Many schools these days offer scholarships to those that show financial need by completing school courses, or attending special classes such as AP or IB courses. If you have earned one of these scholarships, you should include it as part of your education qualifications.Once you have successfully completed all the school requirements that were part of your education, you can begin to include additional information about your educational experience. This can include a listing of all degrees and certificates you have completed, as well as descriptions of each one. Each school course must be included, including any awards that you have received for your academic achievements. The dates of each course must also be included, along with dates of graduation. If you have attended specific jobs, that information should also be listed.Sometimes a student will attend a community college and later go on to receive a degree. In this case, you may choose to list the community college as a separate education field. You should also state if you have been a member of a professional organization. This information may also be included on your application as well. If so, you should list that as well, as it indicates your interest in continuing education. To demonstrate your employment history, include your full name, contact information, as well as your position. Any jobs you have held during the past four years, as well as those you still hold, should be listed as well. Note that your employer's contact information should be included as well.Furthermore, you should also list any awards and recognitions that you have received for your employment history. When you leave a job, you should list your last employment dates and positions. In addition, you should provide employment information when you switch industries, including what positions you held at the new company.Creating a re sume in education is very similar to any other job application. You should include education information as well as employment and other relevant information. For the most part, the basic format for resumes in education will be the same as any other resume, and you should keep it that way.

College, Career, Life Career and life planning assets for school students, current grads, and career-changers. Primary Menu Should You Take an Unpaid Internship? Andrea Unpaid internships are the norm in many industries. Students fetch espresso and make copies hoping to gain slightly useful expertise or make connections. But how do you resolve which unpaid internships are definitely worth the effort? A few suggestions to bear in mind when assessing an unpaid internship: Company Reputation More reputable firms often provide higher internship opportunities, because they have extra assets to commit to formal internship applications that provide high quality training. Another large benefit: having a nicely-know company listed in your resume. Job Duties A good internship program will have clear duties and objectives outlined for interns upfront. Will your obligations embrace working with skilled professionals in your field? What expertise are you able to achieve, based on the job duties described? What will a typical day be like at work during your internship? These questions ought to be requested earlier than deciding to take on an unpaid intern ship. Success of Former Interns What occurs to former interns? Do many get hired on with the same company? For some corporations, entry stage positions are stuffed largely with former interns. Other companies reap the benefits of free labor with no intention of hiring interns. Talk to former interns with the company or look for online employer evaluations. Hours/Length of Internship A small (fortunate) proportion of students can work indefinitely at an unpaid internship. However, most students and up to date graduates have payments and loans to pay. A full-time internship lasting a 12 months should present some compensation, whereas an unpaid part-time internship lasting just a few months isnât unreasonable. Jumping between corporate and non-profit jobs - Copeland Coaching
Jumping between corporate and non-profit jobs Career transitions are all the rage these days. Whether itâs moving between jobs more frequently or updating your skill set midstream, change is happening. One trend growing in popularity is employees who are making a move between the nonprofit and corporate worlds. Regardless of which side of the fence youâre on now, the grass often looks greener on the other side. And, the good news is, many employers are warming up to the idea too. Now the questions becomes, how do you make such a bold move? If youâre transitioning from corporate to nonprofit, your journey is a bit more direct. Thereâs been a trend underway for the last 10 years to run nonprofits more like their money-making cousins. Start by considering the value and skills you bring from your current job to the nonprofit world. If you are a marketer, can you market products in different industries? If youâre in corporate sales, could you consider nonprofit fundraising? Then, begin plugging into the nonprofit community by serving on boards and volunteering your time. The more people you network with, the easier it becomes get an interview when the right job becomes available. Add these experiences to your resume and LinkedIn profile and youâre on your way. If youâre making a move in the opposite direction, the journey may be a bit longer, but is not impossible. One approach is to consider for-profit industries that are adjacent to your nonprofitâs cause. For example, if you work at a health related nonprofit, you could consider a health related for-profit. In addition, you have probably worked in a small office where youâve become very entrepreneurial by being exposed to many different types of roles. Nonprofits are often short on cash, so employees learn many different skills. Entrepreneurship and the ability to master many different tasks are popular ideas within corporate America today. Prepare to talk about this advantage you bring. Begin attending networking events where you can meet your corporate colleagues. Look for meetings of national organizations in your specific field of interest like the American Marketing Association or the Project Management Institute. Last, you may want to consider taking on small consulting projects to build up a list of for-profit experience. Include these on your resume and LinkedIn profile. Thereâs one other important point to note. No matter how hard you work to prepare yourself for this transition, chances are high that someone who interviews you wonât agree with your plan. They wonât understand how your skills transfer or why you want to change your path. Do your best not to let it get you down. Remember that you just need one person to believe in you. You may have to talk to more people than youâd like to find that one person, but when you do, your foot will be in the door. Once youâve made the transition, thereâs no looking back. Future employers will view you as a proven resource, and no longer someone whoâs making a big change. I hope these tips have helped you. 6 Ways to Bounce Back After a Major Work Mistake
6 Ways to Bounce Back After a Major Work Mistake Errors occur. We invest a great deal of energy at work, so it's a given that a ton of the missteps we make in our lives will include the working environment. In spite of the fact that your first sense might be to frenzy and conceal your error or to simply flee acting while under coercion can cause more damage than anything else. What is important most is the means by which you carry on in the consequence of failing. Everybody commits errors in the long run, however not every person handles making them well. Here are six different ways to ricochet once more from a significant work botch without destroying your reputation.1. Attempt to fix the problem. Before you go up against the important party about your misstep, inquire as to whether there is a path for you to capably address it all alone. In the event that your error is minor enough that nobody else needs to think about it, start there however just on the off chance that you are sure fixing it all alone wont cause more mischief tha n anything. In the event that you despite everything need to carry your error to somebody elses consideration, have two or three unique arrangements as a primary concern for how to move forward.2. Apologizeonceto vital parties.Dont cower. At the point when we commit errors, a first sense can be to exhibit how sorry we are by saying 'sorry'. over and over. Tragically, however this thought may originate from a decent spot, it can cause more damage than anything else. Consoling somebody that theyre excused again and again can feel depleting for the other party. So convey one ardent yet stately conciliatory sentiment. At that point, keep moving.3. Take responsibility. While you ought to totally tell every bit of relevant information, abstain from carrying others into the issue. Tossing another person under the transport won't help your case it will simply acquire you office adversaries. Accepting accountability shows solid initiative abilities that may even lift your notoriety with super visors in the future.4. Acknowledge the consequences.Mistakes frequently have results. Possibly you need to remain late consistently for a month to twofold check information or call several customers and clarify that a blunder was made that is being remedied. Whatever you need to do to right your wrong, do it modestly and without protest. This shows you pay attention to your slip-up more than over and over saying 'sorry' ever could. Pushing ahead emphatically can be a significant method to show your managers and colleagues that youre a cooperative person who has the companys wellbeing in mind.5. Dont hide.Though you may at first feel humiliated relying upon the seriousness of your blunder and what number of individuals think about it, demonstrating disgrace will just exacerbate the fallout. After youve apologized to the suitable gatherings, dont drape your head about it. Dont confine yourself in your office or quit giving thoughts at meetings.6. Practice self-compassion.Easier said than done, isn't that so? In the event that you end up replaying your misstep again and again, attempt to concentrate on what number of things youve done effectively and praise yourself for taking care of this mistake so well. Recall that slip-ups are significant educators, and youre leaving your mix-up all the more shrewd.- - Kayla Heisler is a writer and Pushcart Prize-assigned artist. Creating A Powerful Resume Summary Statement
Creating A Powerful Resume Summary Statement The resume summary statement is a powerful selling tool that can make or break the document. Its a job seekers prime real estate, and its all about highlighting your skills, strengths, experiences core competencies that will best position you as a qualified candidate for the role. Its also the first thing your audience will read on your resume, and it can set a powerfully branded overtone for the rest of your document. For resume summary examples, click here. If you dont want them to miss your message, then I say, lay it out for them clearly and concisely. Writing about yourself can be a difficult feat, a brain-cramping exercise confusing to even the most creative and linguistically-gifted folks! So Ive broken it down for you into a few easy steps to get you going. STEP 1: Start by determining your main message. The resume tells a story around your career, so think: âWhat do I want potential employers to know about me as a candidate, and as a professional in my field? This is your foundation and were going to essentially build upon and rework this. For example: âIm an accomplished and award-winning copywriter who has a wide range of experience across multiple media, and a wide range of work within some of the best known consumer brands. I know my stuff, and I would be an asset to any creative team!â STEP 2: Create a strong opening line. (1-2 lines) The idea here is to be direct with 1) who you are, 2) what you do, and 3) what your level of expertise is. I often begin the sentence with 1 or 2 powerful and supporting adjectives that uniquely describe the person, and that adds some oomph: âAward-winding multi-lingual copywriter with 10+ years of experience in digital and traditional advertising agencies and design shops.â STEP 3: Talk about your strengths and core competencies. (1-2 lines) Now that they know what you do and your level of expertise, talk about the specific functions within your role that are most relevant to the job your applying to, and that you consider your strongest attributes: âStrengths focus around cross-cultural brand promotion for direct mail and print campaigns, and understanding how ads will resonate within international markets.â STEP 4: Talk about additional experience or transferrable skills. (1-2 lines) Now that youve clarified what you are qualified to do, and really where you excel in relation to the experiences and skills the job requires, discuss what other non-traditional skill sets and attributes you bring to the table that might set you apart from someone else with a similar background: âAdditional experience working with consumer and retail brands including Target, Home Depot and Macys, with exposure to project planning, budgetary oversight, and contract management.â STEP 5: Put it all together! Piece together each of the above components, and make sure the constructed message echoes the original idea you described in Step 1. Be sure that the message doesnt just look or sound good on paper, but that its an accurate and unique representation of you, that it clearly communicates the type of role youre targeting, and that it appeals to your target audience through the use of appropriate language and keywords: âAward-winding multi-lingual copywriter with 10+ years of experience in digital and traditional advertising agencies and design shops. Strengths focus around cross-cultural brand promotion for direct mail and print campaigns, and understanding how ads will resonate within international markets. Additional experience working with consumer brands including Target, Home Depot and Macys, with exposure to project planning, budgetary oversight, and contract management.â STEP 6: Modify as needed. I recommend tailoring this for each resume you send out so that you are appealing directly to the exact role and company to which you are applying, as the most important skills and attributes may vary. Bonus: You can also use this for your LinkedIn profile or other social media profiles. Your branding summary statement is a marketing tool, and when used effectively it should communicate your brand in a way that screams, âHire me! Im qualified and full of the potential that your company needs, dammit.â Well, something along those lines. This is just the beginning. Download the full Resume Summary Statement Worksheet for additional prompts and step-by-step ideas to inspire your best writing and ensure youre truly communicating your value in the right words.

Gold digging Web 2.0 style
Gold digging Web 2.0 style The guy Im sort of dating asks me, Do you know Glenda Bautista? I say, No. He says, Were trying to hire her. So I check out her blog and dis her and he says, She was dating Matt Mullenweg. I say, Really. He says, Yeah. I was talking with my business partner and we both thought it must really suck for her that they are not dating anymore but they are still mentioned in the same breath a lot. Really? Like how? Google Glenda Bautista Matt. I do that. Their life looks really fun. They do cool stuff, meet cool people, and how can you not think Matt is great? He is. Who knows what hes like to date, but hes a great online brand. That conversation was four weeks ago. And I have talked with this guy Im sort of dating, D, a lot since then. But I am not saying that hes my boyfriend because maybe I want my boyfriend to have as big a brand as Matt. For forever, girls have been looking for guys with a ton of money even the smart girls. But I married a guy who never earned any money, and honestly, I never really cared. We had problems, but not because I earned all the money. So now I know that I dont need to look for a guy with a ton of money. And since my divorce, Ive taken time to be sort of a free spirit, just dating people for fun and connection and all the corny things my readers ask me to pay attention to, as they explain how the farmer is not right for me, and how the 25-year-old is not right either, and that the alcoholic private equity guy is an alcoholic. Then I thought about Glenda. I immediately thought she must be a good hire because she dated Matt. Its a good reference. You know shes smart. Because how could Matt be with a moron? He couldnt. And even before you see her in person, you can know shes not below average in the looks department, because I dont think Matt needs to go there. So my point, here is that attaching your own brand to a known, solid brand is very good. I see Hollywood people doing this. Its not new. But its new that today each person online is some sort of brand and we are all personal brand managers. So, D, who is really attentive and normaltwo traits I have never had in a boyfriend, everis scary to me because Im giving up the chance to enhance my brand by dating an online star. So I was sort of keeping D a secret. Because I was worried doors would close. But I could see doors closing because each week Id spend more time on the phone with him. You might have noticed this. Theres an inverse correlation between how smitten I am with who Im seeing and how frequent these blog posts arrive. Last week, for example, there were two posts, and I only wrote one of them. When I was in a terrible marriage and trying to hide in my work, there were four posts a week, sometimes five. I found myself doing stuff like talking with him all day via IM and text and email and the phone. So that even though he lives very far from me, it felt like he was sort of everywhere, all the time. I got tired, so tired that I actually sent the kids to school one day and went back to bed and missed all my meetings. When I called Ryan to tell him I overslept I felt like I was the intern calling human resources and hoping not to get fired. Ryan didnt care. He knows I work way more than most people and that I would probably be more sane if I worked less. But I got nervous and went back to working long hours and still talking on the phone late at night, until one night recently. I saw I missed a call, and I called him back, and I said, Where are you? Mostly I asked because it sounded loud and I know his routine now, and its never loud at 8pm. He said, Im on a plane. Stuck on the tarmac. I said, You didnt tell me you were flying tonight. He said, You didnt ask. I went ballistic that how could we talk this much and he not tell me his travel schedule. Then he told me his schedule. I told him I am planning a trip to the same city. We could be sharing a hotel room. Why is he not telling me ahead of time? I tell him Im so frustrated that I have to hang up. He says, Im sorry. Im sorry. I didnt know you wanted to see me. I said, Are you nuts? I talk with you almost every night. Then we both paused. He said, You dont know who this is, do you? Then I died as I realized he is my freelance sales guy who lives in the same area code as D. I tell him,Oh. God. No. I didnt know it was you. I have to hang up. I have to call you back. I have to call you back in maybe ten years. That was the first thing. Of many things that are the result of me spending way too much time talking and writing to D. He sent me a quote about how we each vibrate a certain way and we find our vibrational match. I told him I think thats true, but I vibrate like an insane person. And I worry that I am attracting my vibrational match for insanity and that if I could just get more sane, Id attract a different match. He pointed out the obvious: I will probably not get more sane. This is just you, he said. And then I got happy that he is stable and calm and largely unshakable, when I am often shaking as much as I can. And then I tell myself that I have to admit that Im dating him. Im not sure what that means, but the only reason Im not doing it is because Im holding out for some amorphous online brand that will perfectly complement my own. Do not write to me and tell me thats shallow, okay? Its the new millennium version of a gold digger. And I know Im not the only one. Im just the only one willing to admit it. So I guess when someone wants to hire me, Im not going to be able to get the job based on who Ive dated.

Social Media Mistakes Candidates Make During Job Search - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Social Media Mistakes Candidates Make During Job Search - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Social media can both advance and hinder your career depending on how you use it. Most of the recruiters admit that they look at candidatesâ social media profiles before making their decision. Therefore, you have to be careful about how you use social media and who can see your posts. You probably donât want to provide an unprofessional image to your future employers. Below you can find the most common mistakes that candidates make about social media during their job search. Posting Inappropriate Photos: Everybody has a life outside of work but photos of partying, nudity or holding firearms can hurt your professional image. Make sure your pictures are private. Recruiters do not need to know your social life. Making Discriminatory Comments: Posting discriminatory comments, videos or pictures to your social media profile is definitely a red flag for many employers. Most companies have a diverse work policy so they will not want to hire anyone who doesnât share this view. Criticizing Your Current Employer: Posting negative comments about your boss or your employer is a big mistake. Your future employer will think that if you post negative opinions about your current employer, then you can post similar comments about another employer in the future as well. Using Social Media During Work Hours: Posting tweets, videos or pictures during work hours may raise a red flag for your future employer. This shows that you are wasting the time you need to work, on social media. It is ok to post 2-3 comments during a week but still, be careful about what you are posting. Not having any Social Media Accounts: Just like using social media too much is a red flag, not having any social media accounts is not acceptable as well. Maybe you donât like to share your private life via social media but at least you can have an active LinkedIn account. In this way, you can connect, network and share your work with other professionals in your field. Sending a Request to Your Interviewers: This happens very often but it is recommended not doing it. Your interviewers may be very friendly to you but this doesnât mean that they want to be friends with you. There is no need to cross unwritten boundaries and prevent your chance of getting the offer. Posting Comments about Your Recent Interview: You may be excited and happy that you had a great interview. However, donât assume that you got the job right away and keep your comments to yourself. There are other candidates they need to think about as well so let them make a decision first.

How Do You Do the Summary Part of Your Resume?
How Do You Do the Summary Part of Your Resume? When writing a resume it is important to write an effective summary of the most important facts to include in the resume. This allows potential employers to quickly determine what they need to see when reading the resume. You don't need to worry about including all the important facts. The person reviewing your resume will see enough of that information to decide whether or not you meet their standard. To be able to fit the right information into your resume, write your summary in an orderly and consistent manner. The summary should not be lengthy or needlessly technical. For the most part, a summary must only include basic facts and be written for the reader to understand. For this reason, it is important to only include relevant facts to the resume. If you plan on including any personal information in your resume, such as your hobbies, religion, political beliefs, or social organizations, leave them out of the summary. Many employers do no t appreciate the introduction of such information in a resume. If you are allowed to include these details, limit the amount of information you include in the summary. If you include personal information, be sure to list it at the bottom of the summary. Listing it at the bottom may deter potential employers from looking further. They can skip your resume completely, if they see the personal information at the bottom. When writing the summary part of your resume, avoid using technical terms. Instead, include broad terms and phrases that can be understood by the reader. Use bullet points instead of long paragraphs to break down the key facts. Use the same colors for each of the facts, to make them easier to identify.Don't use more than one color on the same page or in the same paragraph. Using multiple colors can also confuse the reader, and will often be taken to mean that the resume has been professionally written. This does not mean to say that you cannot use a great deal of color in your resume, but it should be used sparingly.Remember that a summary part of your resume should only contain facts relevant to the position you are applying for. Don't add unnecessary information. With a little thought and practice, writing your resume will become easier.

The Cult of Overwork is alive and well. Sigh! - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
The Cult of Overwork is alive and well. Sigh! - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog European workers dont work enough hours compared to Americans. That is the message in this article written by a London-based venture capitalist. From the article: As anyone who?s ever been there or visited will attest, in Silicon Valley everyone is working *all of the time*. And while this might seem unhealthy, not scalable, obsessive, manic or simply ridiculous, from an ecoystem perspective it?s basically unbeatable. If you want to build companies and ride the wave of innovation, it?s a 24/7 preoccupation ? not just a lifestyle business. By contrast, I am in London-based startups? offices all the time and I am gobsmacked when they are nearly empty by 6:30 PM. I can see where hes coming from I really can. Its so easy to equate working long hours with commitment and success. When you see the office full of people late at night, you automatically think WOW, these people are serious theyre going places. Youd be forgiven for thinking so, but youd be no less wrong. Please show me a single study that demonstrates the link between massive overwork (ie. working 60, 70, 80 or more hours a week for long stretches of time) and increased worker productivity and corporate success. On the other hand, theres stuff like this: In 1991, a client asked me to conduct a study on the effects of work hours on productivity and errors My findings were quite simply that mistakes and errors rose by about 10% after an eight-hour day and 28% after a 10-hour day I also found that productivity decreased by half after the eighth hour of work. In other words, half of all overtime costs were wasted since it was taking twice as long to complete projects. After the study was done, a concerted effort was made to increase staffing. (Source) The cult of overwork is the prevailing belief that the more hours people work, the better for the company. That notion is not only harmful, it is dead wrong, as this story from Arlie Hochschilds book The Time Bind demonstrates. One executive, Doug Strain, the vice chairman of ESI, a computer company in Portland Oregon, saw the link between reduced hours for some and more jobs for others. At a 1990 focus group for CEOs and managers, he volunteered the following story: When demand for a product is down, normally a company fires some people and makes the rest work twice as hard. So we put it to a vote of everyone in the plant. We asked them what they wanted to do: layoffs for some workers or thirty-two-hour workweeks for everyone. They thought about it and decided theyd rather hold the team together. So we went down to a thirty-two-hour-a-week schedule for everyone furing a down time. We took everybodys hours and salary down executives too. But Strain discovered two surprises. First, productivity did not decline. I swear to God we get as much out of them at thirty-two hours as we did at forty. So its not a bad business decision. But second, when economic conditions improved, we offered them one hundred percent time again. No one wanted to go back! Never in our wildest dreams would our managers have designed a four-day week. But its endured at the insistence of our employees. Interesting, huh? They cut back work-hours but production remains the same. So where exactly is the evidence (apart from our own unexamined bias) that overwork is a prerequisite for success? Your take Whats your take? Would you only invest your money in a company where the parking lot is always full even on Sundays? What does tons of overtime do to you personally? Do you get twice as much done in an 80-hour week as in a 40-hour week? What does it do to your life outside of work? Related posts The Cult of Overwork. Goldman Sachs Head of HR Says an Underrated Factor Should Make a Big Difference in Which Job You Choose
Goldman Sachsâ Head of HR Says an âUnderratedâ Factor Should Make a Big Difference in Which Job You Choose âWorking hard feels very different when you like the people around you and when you donât.â Thatâs according to Dane Holmes, who is the global head of human capital management and the leadership development group Pine Street at Goldman Sachs. This summer, Holmes shared with Goldman Sachs interns his best advice for launching a successful career. Holmes told interns that the single most underrated thing that people fail to account for when theyâre choosing a job is how much they like their prospective coworkers. He advised interns to ask themselves: âDo I think, if I take this job, people are going to invest in me and Iâm going to grow and learn? Do I like the people that Iâm going to show up with every day?â You want âa team that wants to invest in you and wants to see you do well,â Holmes said. All this makes intuitive sense: Who wants to spend most of their day with people who are checked out, or overly competitive, or downright mean? Thereâs also some research behind this idea. A 2016 report details findings by career services site Monster and social intelligence company Brandwatch, who analyzed more than 2 million Tweets that mentioned work. Results showed that âpeopleâ was one of the most frequently mentioned words in Tweets about loving or hating a job. And a 2004 Gallup survey found that 51% of employees who strongly agree that their organization encourages close friendships at work are extremely satisfied at work. Compare that to just 19% of employees who disagree. Holmes suggested that the caliber of your colleagues can be even more important than the work youâre doing. âWhatever particular job it is may be a little bit secondary,â he said, âto, âDo I like the environment that Iâm in?â and âDo I like the people that Iâm working with?'â This article originally appeared on BusinessInsider.com.

How I Center Myself Everyday to Be More Productive And Make Sure My Work is Meaningful
How I Center Myself Everyday to Be More Productive And Make Sure My Work is Meaningful When starting out in zu sich career, Yvette Vargas felt, like many women, that she needed to keep the spheres of her life separate.I used to have separate selves mother to my children, wife to my husband, caretaker to my parents, employee and friend. I thought that compartmentalizing my different selves would help me manage each relationship better, she said. However, its only by working to integrate her selves and finding a job that allows her to bring every aspect of herself to work that shes found true meaning in her career.Vargas says that at Citizens, she can feel the difference shes making. And its the compassion of her coworkers that makes it all possible. While doing meaningful work that reinforces who you are sounds like the golden ticket to career happiness, it also takes a lot of effort. Vargas shared the routines that have allowed her to do it how she centers herself every morning, h ow she sets intentions for interactions at work and how she champions the ideas of others. Then, she shared her best advice for women who want to develop careers that truly matter. How long have you been in your current role, and what were you doing previously?Im Executive Vice President, Head of Development at Whats the first thing you do at work every day?Its bedrngnis the traditional I wrote my to-do list. I spend a few minutes thinking through my intentions for the day and how I want to show up.We all have work we have to get done. But before I start work, I like to get myself centered around what might get in the way, what I might struggle with, what might make me happy, what might make me unhappy and how I can be productive. For example, if I know that I am going to have a difficult meeting, I want to have already thought through how Im going to approach it. I might have emotions about the meeting or thoughts that I want to share, but there could be barriers to me being able to do that. Thats why I want to be prepared to overcome them. If I find myself struggling, Ill often use my time in the morning to reach out to my advisor to be a sounding-board. Whats the fruchtwein unique or interesting aspect of your job or company? The work. Were dealing with people and human behavior, elend just knowledge. Were in the business of helping manifest peoples knowledge and skills into activities initiatives that will help our customers, colleagues and communities actually transform their lives.Maybe Im over-indexing a little on our industry, but I do think its an honorable one. Had banking not existed, my father would not have been able to start a small business. I would not have been able to go to college, to get my Masters degree or to buy my first home. Were an immigrant family. Were the example of the American dream, and I still believe theres an opportunity for that. Its why I do what I do I get to help people become their best selves. When I was a little girl, I w anted to be a missionary. The ideas that I had were to change the world in a third-world country. Now that Im a little older and more practical, my goal is that if I can be a blessing to one person every day, then its all worth it. I can make change one person at a time.Whats something you think most people dont know about your company that you think they should? What distinguishes us is the care that our colleagues have for each other and our customers. Its not just a statement on a poster or a slogan in a marketing campaign. Our colleagues care and thats why we all show up the way we do. We work in a fast-paced industry that not only requires smart, competent people, but people with heart. Thats what makes us different empathy and compassion.Whats something youre especially good at at work?I can create something out of nothing. Someone can have an idea and I can operationalize it. Or, I can have the idea and lead other people to bring it to life. I dont need a lot of structure.Wha t are you trying to improve? To have a better holistic view of who I am. I used to have separate selves mother to my children, wife to my husband, caretaker to my parents, employee and friend. I thought that compartmentalizing my different selves would help me manage each relationship better. Now that Im in the second-act of my life, Im working to integrate it all. Every relationship I have represents wealth and happiness to me, and my definition of success is to be a whole person. Its unfortunate its taken me so long to understand that.Whats your favorite mistake? The biggest career mistake Ive made and its the one Ill never forget is that you should never leave a company for money. You need a better reason. I had an emotional reaction to not getting the raise I wanted and chose to leave that company for another one that wasnt great. This taught me to look at the whole picture. If you decide to take a new job, take it for the people you work with.Whats the one career move youve ma de that youre most proud of?Coming to Citizens. I could have stayed where I was I was having a good time and doing good work. But this role has given me the opportunity to bring together everything Ive learned throughout my career and Im learning more than I thought I would. So, Im proud of the risk I took. I didnt know about Citizens and I havent been disappointed. Ive had opportunities to stretch, learn and grow and hope that I can finish out my career here.Whats your 1 piece of advice for women who are looking for jobs right now? There a ton of websites and social media channels to look for work. But my advice is building your network in the industry youre interested in. Go to conference. Attend meet-ups. Insert yourself in industry events. Those are the best ways to get yourself known and understand whats happening in the market relative to the work youre doing. It will allow you to meet people who can help you get in. Thats not something you can do online. You need to put a na me, voice and person to the resume.Whats the most memorable piece of career advice youve ever received?Go to every meeting knowing how you want to show up. What is the brand you want to convey? You have a chance every day to solidify how you want to be known, and what you want to be known for. Choose your words and actions wisely.--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with Fairygodboss.Find a job there today
